The Ten Commandments, 13th cen. B.C.
The division into ten commandments shown is that used by Catholics and Lutherans.
Anglicans, Protestants and Orthodox Christians, as well as Jews usually divide commandment one into two commandments ("Thou shalt not have strange gods before Me.") and commandment two ("Thou shalt not make to thyself any graven image"), putting the enumeration off by one until commandments nine and ten, which they combine into one commandment.

| I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or in the earth beneath, or in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; and shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments. | Remember the Sabbath-day to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work. For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the seventh day, and hallowed it.
